Think you know your social media? Take a look at a new infographic released this week from skilled.co, and you might find that you don’t know quite as much as you think. From global penetration rates to influence of purchasing decisions, this new social media infographic provides plenty of information for even the most knowledgeable marketer or social business to digest. We’ve covered a few of the essential highlights for you here on the BuzzPlant Blog. Keep moving down the page to see the full infographic below.
Daily Login Stats
DAUs (daily active users) speak volumes to a social network’s power and influence. There aren’t any big surprises here in terms of the popularity lineup, but it is impressive to see just how committed Facebook users are to the platform:
- 70% – Facebook
- 59% – Instagram
- 38% – Twitter
- 27% – LinkedIn
- 22% – Pinterest
Teens’ Social Media Behavior
We’ve written before on how teens and Millennials watch YouTube. But did you know…
- 85% of teens and young adults used YouTube to watch videos.
- 60% of teen users have shared pictures of themselves on social media.
- 92% of teens report going online daily.
- 71% of teens use more than one social network site.
Social Media & News
We know that 51% of people use social media as a source of news, but other sources suggest those figures could be much higher (especially on Reddit – a topic we discussed earlier this year):
- 70% – Reddit
- 66% – Facebook
- 59% – Twitter
- 31% – Tumblr
- 23% – Instagram
Facebook Still Driving Sales
If your goal is to move sales, then Facebook will still be your number one go-to for social advertising. It ranks as the top social media site most likely to influence purchases, and is the primary source for users looking for a product sale or purchase alert. Users looking for additional product information, however, are far more likely to turn to Pinterest.
Social Spending on the Rise
Social spending was at $ 9.74 billion last year, and is projected to hit $ 11.72B this year. Spending is expected to continue rising…
- $ 13.51B for 2017
- $ 15.36B for 2018
- $ 17.34B for 2019
Social ROI
Of course, the big question for many marketers and clients is… what’s the ROI? (By the way, we’ve got an entire white paper on that topic that we’d love for you to check out.) Not surprisingly, Facebook clocks in at the top. Instagram isn’t quite proving its value in the data in this infographic, but we imagine that will change in 2017 as more companies realize that much of what can be done on Facebook can also be done on Instagram.
- 8% – Facebook
- 5% – Twitter
- 1% – Instagram
- 7% – LinkedIn
