Although whiteboard animation is a relatively new art form, it has quickly grown very popular. Its clean and concise style makes it a great fit for explaining complex topics in a variety of outlets (i.e. mobile, desktop, broadcast, etc.). But its precipitous success is the result of more than just a format; it’s a matter of execution. So in order to understand the artful power of this style—and why it continues to gain traction in our increasingly digital world—let’s take a look at 12 awesome examples of whiteboard animation…


12 Awesome Examples of Whiteboard Animation (2007-2015):


1) UPS Whiteboard Freight (2007): This is not animation, per se, but this bold choice by UPS–to center a series of broadcast spots around drawings on a whiteboard–helped perhaps set the stage for what was to come.



2) Left Brain, Right Brain (2010): The art of Whiteboard Animation really came to the forefront in 2010 through the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce. This London-based organization, committed to finding practical solutions to today’s social challenges, hired Cognitive Media to animate some talks given at the RSA. Left Brain, Right Brain, based on a lecture given by Matthew Taylor, was the first in this series.



3) Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us (2010): With over 14 million views on YouTube, this RSA-style animation (based on a talk given by Dan Pink) became a bonafide viral sensation.



4) How to Give an Awesome (Powerpoint) Presentation (2011): In an effort to eliminate “death by PowerPoint,” Wienot Films created this whiteboard video.



5) Science of Persuasion (2012): This animated video describes the six universal Principles of Persuasion based on the research of Dr. Cialdini.



6) CrossFit: Functional Movement (2012): To define CrossFit and explain what this high intensity philosophy is all about, the fitness company turned to whiteboard animation.
