Pinterest is one of the top sources of traffic for bloggers, but only pinning new blog posts is not enough to get the exposure they want or drive traffic back to their blog.
There are a few things that bloggers can do to fully optimize their content for Pinterest and make sure they reach their audience quicker and better.
This blog post will tell you the top 5 tricks you need to do for Pinterest:
1. Add a “Pin It Button” to Your Images
Having social media “share” buttons on your blog posts is a great way to make life easier for your readers to share your content, but for Pinterest you’ll want to take a step further and add a “Pin It Button” to all your images.
A “Pin It Button” sits inside an image and your readers will easily see it and click on it to instantly pinning the image into their Pinterest boards.
If you’re using WordPress, I recommend the plugin “Pinterest Pin It Button For Images”.
2. Have a Board Just for Your Blog Posts
The first row of your Pinterest account contains all boards that people will see first when they visit your profile.
So, make sure one of those boards is a board exclusively dedicated to your blog posts.
You may want to pin your blog posts into other boards and group boards too (and you should really if they’re related to the blog posts topics), but in this exclusive board make sure you pin images that your audience cannot find anywhere else and are VERY appealing.
Please notice that a lot of people on Pinterest don’t follow accounts, they follow just a few boards from an account or sometimes even just one, so this will make your board really interesting to follow and will make your followers want to come back to see more!
Also, make sure your board title is appealing and quickly tells what is about. Don’t just say “My Blog Posts”. Instead, write something like “Yummy Recipes From My Blog”, or “The Money Saving’s Blog”. This will help your board to be found, especially if you’re fairly new to Pinterest.
3. Verify your Blog URL for Pinterest
Verifying your Blog URL for Pinterest is a real must for bloggers.
You’ll get access to website stats on Pinterest Analytics, so you’ll be able to know which original pins are the most popular, have the most likes and clicks.
This is very handy for example if you want to do promoted posts and you need to know which posts are more popular. It also tells you which content your audience finds the most engaging.
Verifying your blog URL also adds your Pinterest logo/picture to all original pins that come from your website.
4. Get Rich Pins!
Rich Pins are a great way to get more repins, likes and traffic back to your blog from Pinterest.
Basically, rich pins add extra information to your original pins. There are five types of rich pins: movie, recipe, article, product and place.
For example, Article Pins let you show the headline or title, the description and the author of your article or blog post. For Recipe Pins, it will list all ingredients, serving size, and dietary restrictions category (Vegan, Gluten-free, etc) on the pin, but people still need to click through to your blog to get the whole recipe.
Another (great) benefit of Rich Pins is that every time you do a change on your blog posts (for example a new recipe ingredient or a new tool), it will automatically update the new info on the pins without the need of any manual changes!
And if you have products for sale on your blog, every time you decrease the price by more than 10%, Pinterest will send will send an automated email about the price drop to the people who pinned your product.
All this for free!
To get Rich Pins for your blog, you basically need to choose the appropriate one, add the code in the HTML of your blog, and apply for the rich pins.

5. Watermark your Blog Images
When you pin your blog images into Pinterest you want them associated with your blog and one of the best ways to do this is by watermarking your original images.
You can add the name of your blog, your logo or your blog’s URL, just make sure it’s small and doesn’t distract from the image itself.
This is a great way to ensure that people quickly know that an image comes from your blog when it is repinned hundreds of times. Also, if your pin’s URLs are changed or removed for any reason, people will still see that it came from your blog and can type the name in Google (or other search engine) to find it.
A watermark also gives you credibility and increases your reputation, and this is especially important if your blog is also your business.
I recommend the tool Canva to create images for Pinterest and easily add watermarks.
