Digital marketing: you may think you’re doing it by just being online, but unless it is something you actively engage with every day, you’re doing it wrong.

Digital marketing is the promotion of products or brands via one or more forms of electronic media. This means we monitor how many times a website has been viewed, which pages are most popular, sales conversions, what content is bringing in more leads. We work with the Internet, but we also use podcasts, video, and instant messaging to help get our messages across.

Digital marketing is imperative for any firm because customers can have access to information any time or any place they want it, and now so can we. We can monitor what customers are seeing and sharing with their friends, through social interaction, online interaction and more.

The majority of organizations these days do not have a defined digital marketing strategy. They believe just trying to integrate some digital marketing tactics will be enough. They couldn’t be more wrong. Without a strategy, you have no direction and therefore don’t know how to improve the few tactics you’re employing. You also do not allow your firm to learn enough about your online customers. Without this knowledge, how can you change what a customer wants in order to bring in more consumers? Not to mention, with digital marketing you can find more cost-effective ways to market your services without duplicating what you’ve already done.

There are 7 big categories of digital marketing that, if you integrate them correctly, you can improve your online status immensely. You can utilize search engine optimization, search engine marketing (because no, they are not the same thing), content marketing, social media marketing, pay-per-click marketing, affiliate marketing and email marketing. You can use just one of these categories and improve your strategy, but using all seven will keep you ahead of the game and help you become the best in what you do.
