Local Businesses can now “verify” their Business Page on Facebook and get a verification button on their Page. Verifying the business confirms that your business is an authentic Business Page on the site.
“Verified Page or profile – Some Pages and profiles have been verified by Facebook to let people know that they’re authentic. If you see a blue badge on a Page or profile, it means that Facebook confirmed that this is the authentic Page or profile for this public figure, media company or brand. If you see a gray badge on a Page, it means that Facebook confirmed that this is an authentic Page for this business or organization.” (Facebook Help Center)
Verifiying your Page and showing you are an authentic business helps to gain the trust of your consumers and Friends.
It will also help to differentiate the “real” Facebook Page for a business. Some businesses have several Business Pages on Facebook, for many reasons, and while they have all of these Pages there is only one “true” Page. This will help to define the “real” Facebook Business Page. (It is suggested, however, that the duplicate Pages be merged with the current Page or deleted.)
In order to verify your current Business Page you must be an Admin of the Page and the Page has to be eligible. To find out if your Page is eligible go to the Page Settings and you will see the Option to Verify your Page in the menu on the General Settings tab.
Facebook provides detailed instructions on how to verify the Page:
- Click Settings at the top of your Page
- From General, click Page Verification
- Click Verify this Page, then click Get Started
- Enter a publicly listed phone number for your business, your country and language
- Click Call Me Nowto allow Facebook to call you with a verification code
- Enter the 4-digit verification code and click Continue
There is also the option to verify the Business Page with a business document. Just follow the instructions above and click “Verify this business with documents instead” at the bottom of the window and then upload a photo of the official document. The document must have the business’ name and address.
Upon completion of the verification process, Facebook will review the request, ensure it matches public records and you will receive an email confirmation regarding the status within a few days.
