15% Of Bing AI Chatbot Sessions Intended To Generate New Content: Microsoft
Microsoft has released a progress update, a month after it launched its Bing AI chatbot.
The technology now has more than 100 million daily active users in a little over a month following the launch, as Microsoft reports higher engagement rates and changes in consumer behavior in the ways people use the technology.
Although it’s not clear how long users will remain with Bing, in a blog post Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s vice president and consumer CMO, wrote that of the millions of users, about one-third are new to Bing, and one-third of preview users are using chat daily.
“This is a surprisingly notable figure, and yet we are fully aware we remain a small, low, single digit share player,” Mehdi wrote. “That said, it feels good to be at the dance!”
Bing is seeing growth in new users, and the engine is seeing engagement grow as more people conduct more searches daily.
On average, Bing records about three chats per session with more than 45 million total chats since the preview began. Fifteen percent of chat sessions are people using Bing to generate new content.
This demonstrates a change in behavior by extending the action of searching for information to using the utility to create and drive creativity, Mehdi writes.
Mehdi believes that two factors continue to drive trial and use. He points to growth in use during the past seven quarters based on the quality of the browser, with new capabilities such as Bing search and create in the Edge sidebar.
In the post, Mehdi also pointed to the core web-search ranking and how it continues to take significant leaps in relevancy due to the introduction of the Prometheus model.
“As more people come to use the new Bing and Edge, we’re seeing trial and adoption of new capabilities that prove out the value of an integrated Search + Chat experience,” he wrote.
On mobile phones, Bing has also seen an increase since the release of the Bing Mobile app.
Answers and Chat, now with voice input, have led to a 6X increase in the daily active users from pre-launch levels.
