Happy New Year Everyone!
By now your email inbox should be nicely filling up with sales emails for Fitness products, Gym Memberships, personal Coaching and of course the January Sales. You’l also notice the word “Goals” appearing a LOT if you subscribe to any marketing or business development emails.
This year we were fortunate to have a little snow and as a family man with young children at home this could only mean one thing. (after Snowballs that is!)
Yes! We had to build a snowman (Cue the Frozen soundtrack courtesy of Youtube)
As we went about building this cute fella it struck me that once again my girls and the snowman had a lot to teach us about how we should go about setting and achieving our goals this year.
It boiled down to these simple steps:
- Have a vision or goal in mind before starting : Check! Build Snowman
- Plan what you need in advance of starting: Snow, Carrot, Hat, Scarf, Branches for arms, etc
- Communicate to those who need to be involved: Who is responsible for what job? How long will it take?
- Stay Positive: Starting with a snowball can be tough, it can look like you aren’t getting anywhere but suddenly hey presto. The weight of the snowball starts picking up snow on its own as you roll it
- Don’t Quit: Too many people quit when they’ve spent 90% of the allocated time and the results only show 50% of the final outcome. You are probably closer than you realise. Russell H Conwell wrote an amazing book called Acres of Diamonds. If you often quit too soon, it’s a must read.
- Enjoy it: Once its done, take a moment to enjoy the success rather than running off to “Whats next”
- Bank The Memory: Use the success of achieving this task to give you fuel the next time you are in a spot. Remember how you won, achieved your goals and use it as a positive spur towards future greatness
Finally, remember that this particular opportunity doesn’t last forever. You need to take action towards your goals.
Yes physically writing goals down is a first step that most people never take, but it also needs to be combined with action if you are to have a wonderful 2015.
Missed The Boat?
What happens if you feel like the Golden Ticket opportunity passed you by? Whether in personal or your business life, there is never just one opportunity. You just need to know what you want to achieve, then be open minded enough to spot it when it next passes by
What are your goals for 2015? If you feel brave, feel free to share them in the comments below. Maybe you can inspire others with a goal you achieved in 2014?
