Are you worried about your children using YouTube because of the questionable content that can be stumbled upon by accident? Google on Friday confirmed a new YouTube app for children that will be released on Monday, February 23, 2015.
The new app, titled YouTube Kids, will be available on smartphones and tablets and is expected to feature original episodes of popular television shows for preschoolers including Thomas the Tank Engine and Sesame Street. The app will also feature many of the kid safe channels that are already available on YouTube.com.
In a screenshot released on Thursday, it was revealed that Reading Rainbow and Mother Goose Club will also be featured.
To keep children engaged, the app will feature a user interface geared towards younger users. The app will feature minimal scrolling, big buttons, and a colorful design factor.
YouTube Kids also offers a timer so parents can limit viewing time for their kids.
The YouTube Kids app will arrive first on Google Android devices and will likely be made available to Apple iOS users in the future.
Google will ensure that the children friendly app complies with all rules and regulations set forth by the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.
With YouTube paying money to produce original episodes of children’s shows, it will be interesting to see how the company monetizes the platform.
The program is expected to be offered free of charge.
